Life of A Tree

When seedlings are planted in the fields on Heritage Farms, they as known as 2-2 transplants - the first two steps below.

  • When a seed from a pinecone is planted, it spends two years growing in a seedling bed.

  • The seedling spends the next two years growing in a transplant bed.

  • The four-year old seedling is then ready to hand planting our tree field.

  • Once planted in our fields, a pine will normally take eight years (or a couple more) to get to harvest stage.

  • On our farm, a spruce will normally take twelve years (or a couple more) to get to harvest stage.

  • Total time for a pine to grow from seed to harvest and finding its place in someone's home for Christmas is between 12 and 14 years.

  • Total time for a spruce to grow from seed to harvest and to find a home in someone's house for Christmas is between 16 and 18 years.
